David A. Schiraldi, the Peter A. Asseff Professor of Organic Chemistry, and Chairman of the Department of Macromolecular Science & Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) received a B.S. from U.C. San Diego, and a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon. After a 20-year career in industrial new product development (Celanese/Hoechst Celanese), Dave joined the faculty at CWRU, where he was worked extensively in the areas of packaging materials, composites, polymer aerogels and polymer flammability for the past 16 years. Professor Schiraldi is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed papers, and over 20 U.S. patents, and was instrumental for the rebuilding of the undergraduate program in Polymer Science & Engineering at CWRU, one of the few such programs existent in the U.S.
For the past two decades, Professor Schiraldi has played an important role in the governance of the ACS PMSE Division, serving in leadership roles from Secretary through Chair, and Past Chair, coordinating the Cooperative Research Award for a number of years, leading the effort to streamline abstract submissions within PMSE, and contributing to a wide range of PMSE programs; he served for 8 years on the ACS-PRF board, and was named a Fellow of the ACS.
The entire ACS PMSE Division is extraordinarily pleased to award David Schiraldi its 2018 Distinguished Service Award, for his distinguished service, outstanding leadership and many contributions to the division.
