2021 ACS Awards in Polymer Science

Professor Craig Hawker is the recipient of the 2021 American Chemical Society Katheryn C. Hach Award for Entrepreneurial Success. The award recognizes “outstanding entrepreneurs who have created a commercially viable business within the chemical enterprise. Starting with a good idea, sustained by passion, fueled by persistence and hard work, the award recipient created something where nothing existed before. The awardee is recognized for creating a new product, service, company or industry based on the transforming power of chemistry to improve people’s lives. The hallmark of this contribution is impact: positive impact on people’s lives and positive impact on the economy by creating chemistry jobs that produce a significant economic benefit.”

Professor Dirk J. Broer is the recipient of the 2021 American Chemistry Society Award in Applied Polymer Science. Professor Broer receives the award for pioneering discoveries in the field of liquid crystalline materials, particularly in the areas of reactive, smart materials for optical and display applications.

Professor Ken Wagener was awarded the 2021 American Chemistry Society Award in Polymer Chemistry for his significant contributions in both industry and academia, including pioneering the acyclic diene metathesis polymerization, which launched an entirely new field of synthetic polymer chemistry.
